Amygdalus orientalis also known as Prunus orientalis on the Jebel Abdul Aziz. This taxon is extremely rare in northern Syria and probably endangered. This photo was taken with members of the MENMED European project Ramon Buxó & Jordi Volta 2003

Amygdalus charcoal and charred endocarp fragments are common on Neolithic sites on the Euphrates suggesting this taxon was more wisespread during the early Holocene. It is not known if the the endosperm is edible.
