This is a typical bustân which are oases in desert areas of the Middle East which have irrigated gardens with water often obtained from qanats. The gardens contain a mixture of crops: cereals, pulses, vegetables, fruit trees and fodder, usually lucerne. These crops are cultivated in the shade of date palms which form a protective canopy against direct sun and heat.
