Top left Rumex sp. Dja'de 37 and Rumex crispi. Top right Rumex sp. Dja'de. Bottom Rumex crispi and Rumex sp. Dja'de 37 section. In order to distinguish between Rumex and Polygonum it is necessary to section the seeds to locate the position of the embryo which is centred in Rumex sp. and in the angle in Polygonum sp. . We were surprised to find that most of what we originally identified as Polygonum corrigioloides on the basis of external features turned out to be Rumex sp when we section the seeds.
